WILLIAM W. FITZHUGH (SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION) VISITS BASQUE STUDENTS IN LOUISBOURG
Dr. William W. Fitzhugh is an anthropologist and archaeologist. He is the Director of the Arctic Studies Center, responsible for the Department of Archeology and Curator of collections at the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution, in Washington D.C. USA.
He has passed through the territory of Unama'ki (Cape Breton Island) on his way to the site of his excavation campaign in the Lower North Shore of Quebec, the Basque-Inuit settlement of Petit Mécatina. And he has made a visit to the Fortress of Louisbourg.
Very close collaborator of Jauzarrea send us this note for the blog.
"I had a great time meeting Eddie Kennedy and the two Basque women working in Louisburg this summer. Wonderful lively ladies! We had a great talk and tour of the archeological collections. The girls' costumes were terrific. Perhaps I may see them in October!"
Eddy Kennedy is the Director of the Content Dissemination Program and the Visitor Experience Manager Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site Parks Canada.
His reference to meet again with the "lively ladies" is because he will be one of the speakers atending our next ATLANTIAR congress in October.
