"-koa" is a Basque word, if you ask me where I come from and I say in Basque "ni Holandakoa naiz", you say "Dutch", and then "-koa", that means where you come from, and that "-koa" ending was used also for a number of other tribal groupings that could be of Basque origin, which shows that the contacts between the Basques and the natives were very good, and also that the influence of the Basque, when the French later came and settled in what is now Canada, when that happened, the Basque had already opened the area and established friendly relations with the native populations.
